How to Quit Smoking - A Lifestyle Change


Being a smoker who wants to quit the habit is one of the most difficult things in the world. You may have wanted to quit and tried with the best of intentions but it is easy to slip back into the old habits time and time again. You may be at the end of your tether and just want to know how to quit smoking once and for all.

Many people are in a similar position to this so please do not feel that you are alone in this matter. You are not the first person who has found difficulty in stopping smoking and you certainly will not be the last.

You can quit smoking if you remember a few simple points. Primarily you should recognise that cigarette smoking is a habit and like most habits and addictions, they are often difficult to break. Smoking has in fact found to be as addictive as many illegal and banned drugs such as cannabis, heroin and crack cocaine so it is no wonder that you may be finding it difficult to quit!

For example, if you play online poker late into the night and smoke a couple of cigarettes while doing so then you need to move the computer somewhere else in the house where it is not so convenient to play on it. If you do not smoke in your children’s presence then why not move the computer to the living room where they spend time, or perhaps you could use the dining room where the chairs are uncomfortable.

Changing your lifestyle and other habits is an important part in how to quit smoking. By removing the other aspects of your routine you are eliminating the circumstances which encourage you to light up a cigarette.

These changes are not just limited to the home, however, what about avoiding smoke-filled bars and nightclubs after work and not seeing your drinking buddies who never seem to be without a cigarette so often? If you used to have a cigarette after eating a meal why not leave the dinner table and go for a walk rather than staying there and reaching for the cigarette packet?

These are just a few suggestions on how to quit smoking but there are no easy answers to kick the habit for good. However, there are thousands of people who have plucked up enough willpower and resolve and have victoriously trained themselves how to quit smoking.
