Stop Smoking Rather than Just Trying to Stop
Smoking is considered to be as addictive as many illegal drugs and numerous people who have tried to stop smoking have discovered it to be one of the hardest experiences of their lives. However, do not despair because while finding the strength and having the resolve to quit smoking is tough, it certainly can be achieved!
The purpose of this article is to try and explain why attempting to stop smoking can be dangerous. What is meant by this statement is when you state you are going to try and achieve something it leaves you susceptible to failure. By attempting to succeed at a given task you are not in fact doing it. There is a clear difference between actually carrying an act out rather than trying to carry it out.
Star Wars buffs may recognise a line spoken by Yoda, the Jedi Master, who said: “Do or do not. There is no try”. This throws out the whole premise of the outcome not really mattering as long as you give something your best shot but if you really want to stop smoking then you have to be focused.
If you choose to visit a hypnotherapist in a bid to stop smoking, one suggestion they may put to you is to tell you that you are either a smoker, or you are not a smoker. An individual who is a non-smoker is not somebody who is attempting to quit because they don’t need to. They simply do not smoke.
This may appear to be a very black and white approach to one of the most addictive habits on the planet but it can work for a number of people. If somebody considers themselves to be a person who does not smoke then it does not afford them the choice of smoking cigarettes. Put yourself in the shoes of a non-smoking family member, friend or work colleague. Does any of them have to consider whether to brave the rain to venture outside for a cigarette? Of course not. They don’t smoke so they don’t have to make that decision.
This can appear to be a basic and simple way of quitting your cigarette habit because it doesn’t involve spending money on patches, gums or popping prescription drugs in place of the cigarettes. However, it is similar in some ways because in order to stop smoking you have to stop trying and start doing.
Remove the option of being able to just try to achieve something and you could find that you have also removed the option of being able to fail to achieve something to. This could be the kick up the backside you need to stop smoking once and for all!
